SINGING HOLIDAYS ON THE WILD SIDE:

Build together a community that connects us to each other, and to the landscape around us. Return home nourished, invigorated and renewed.

Over the sea to Skye: 9 - 16 April 2011

Imagine…. singing after breakfast, exploring the group’s collective voice and sound and how it resonates with the wild natural surroundings on this stunning island; and building a repertoire of songs that reflect our week together. After dinner each day, we will create our own entertainment by singing, and making space for those who wish to share their talents, be they musical, storytelling or playful games. The middle of each day will be free time to arrange between ourselves to explore the island’s riches.

My intention is for us to build together a community that connects us through the singing, to each other, and to the natural vibrant beauty surrounding us. We welcome all ages, families included.  We return home nourished, invigorated and renewed.

The Isle of Skye is famous the world over as one of the most romantic, remote and beautiful islands. From dramatic mountain ranges including 12 munros, 400 miles of coast and spectacular sunsets, the variety of scenery is truly breathtaking. We will stay on the Sleat peninsula, in the grounds of Armadale Castle, surrounded by 40 acres of gardens, with magnificent views across the Sound of Sleat to the hills of Knoydart, the last wilderness area in Britain.  Known as the Garden of Skye, Sleat will be a mass of spring flowers in April.  It is rich in wildlife, including golden eagles, puffins and gannets, red deer and pine martens. In the sea you can often see Minke whales, seals, porpoises and occasionally dolphins. Sleat also has ruined medieval castles, iron-age forts and abandoned villages. Gaelic is the local language, and the Gaelic College- Sabhal mor Ostaig , which attracts traditional musicians from all over the world, is just up the road,

We will stay in warm and comfortable self-catering cottages that sleep 4 to 6 people, and in the evenings we will all eat supper together, prepared by our resident chef.

Part of choosing to go to this part of Skye is that you can travel there all the way by train, on a spectacular train journey across the wilds of the west coast of Scotland to Mallaig. From there, an equally scenic ferry crossing (voted by the American Travel Writers as one of the best ferries in the world) carries you to within a few minutes of Armadale. Nearer the time, I will put those participants who want to make this wonderful journey together in touch with each other, so the holiday starts as soon as you leave home.

Feedback from last year’s singing holiday on Skye:

As a person totally new to singing the group & Candy made me very welcome; by the end of the week I was thoroughly enjoying the singing sessions. RG

Had no expectations but exceeded by miles. JP

What a magical place to explore and experience.  Good balance between time together and apart!   The weather was an extra bonus but very welcome.  Loved the singing. RB

It was for me a magical, gastronomical, comical, exceptional, sensational, hysterical, amicable, this is my first testimonial!  AB
